EMBERS is the debut full-length from TANGIENTS

TANGIENTS: Chelsea Ray, Be Hussey

BIO

TANGIENTS is an LA duo making a mix of modern post-punk, 80s-gaze, and dreamy melodic pop. Chelsea Ray’s intense, yet dream-like vocals can pierce as well as float over the duo’s thick wall of sonics. Partnered with Be Hussey’s production, the result is a futuristic yet timeless collection of songs that make up their debut full-length Embers.

Be Hussey is a prolific recording engineer and has worked with a wide variety of musicians as well as live-in-studio sessions for Part Time Punks with bands like The Church, Modern English, Luna, Seefeel, The Chills, Swervedriver, Soft Kill, Nothing, and Boy Harsher. Be Hussey also won a 2016 Latin Grammy for Céu -Tropix.

“Ethereal bliss at its finest” (Magnetic Magazine)

"Our album Embers is about self-discovery and the one thing we all must do: survive. To me, it is a reminder to live in the now.

Songs like "Void," and "Embers," hint at the difficulty of living in the now, but they bring to light the question: "What is Beyond?"

"Song for Dope" is about my near-death experience when I glimpsed the answer to that question, while the lyrics to "The Ether" are a reminder that every breath could be our last.

In "Pulsar" we "want to be seen," whereas, "We Are Listening" is an ode to nostalgia and a yearning cry to be heard.

I hope that you enjoy Embers, as making it has given me another spark for life."

LYRICS

+ WE ARE LISTENING

Feeling like a million
If I felt any better I would have to take a pill for it
See you in a million years
After all we all turn to tears
But now my childhood is gone
Now we have to grow up and sing our songs

All my eyes are closed and I missed something
How far can you go and not miss something
Open up our ears
We are listening
Open up our ears
We are listening

Days seem bright now, but I got a pen pal
I’m gonna write him daily, and he’ll respond
Feeling like a million
I think they gave me a pill for it

All my eyes are closed, but I missed something
How far can we go and not miss something
Open up our ears
We are listening
We are listening
We are listening

You let me lie here when I wanted to
You showed me how to

Three more curves, then I’ll be home
It’s just three more curves, then I’ll be home
Three more curves, then I’ll be home
Three more curves, then I'll be home

I could drive it back with my eyes closed
Three more curves, then I’ll be home

+ EMBERS

The fire has long burned out and you’ve been gone, so distant
Embers glow, they glow of fear and like and trite
And all of these existences that might be alright
If you thought for a minute that you could find me around
Don’t think that I’d be up for that, I’d be down
There’s no way I could feel hurt
Because you left and you were, just deserted

Can we get out of here and can we go find a place where we can get it all

All of your thoughts are sacred here
Just don’t disappear
Don’t disappear
Your sleepy eyes don’t stand a chance
Just get some rest
Tomorrow you’re a star child

Hi, I am dead inside because you can’t support my point of view
I, the best part of you
Listening to me when you do
I’m not here- here in fire and space and time
Your body’s calling, but I feel fine
It’s where peaceful people fall
I should still be in my body, though- home
I can’t tell if my eyes are closed
Don’t suppose I could ask you?

I remember how the embers glowed
But the fire’s long burned out
I remember how the embers glowed
Been gone

All of your thoughts are sacred here
Just don’t disappear
Don’t disappear
Your sleepy eyes don’t stand a chance
Just get some rest
Just get some rest
All of your thoughts are sacred here
Just don’t disappear
Don’t disappear
Your sleepy eyes don’t stand a chance
Just get some rest
Tomorrow you’re a star child

But the fire's long burned out

NOW NOW NOW

+ NIGHTSCAPE

As the succulent bulbs bloom
Here I fade
When you suck in you prick away your core
As the rickety swing sways
You see how high
Forever the sorrow
Stuck on the blade

You breathe without
A body like a spark
You need a screen to shield
And partially reveal
A being with a heart
Help me feel
A feeling of fullness comes
Hidden within the doubt

Like a swindler in the night
I steal
What a pretty picture you paint
Violet tears
She grins and it pours out
And trickles down
Wish that alchemy transforms
Copper into gold

You breathe without
A body like a spark
You need a screen to shield
And partially reveal
A being with a heart
Help me feel
A feeling of fullness comes
Hidden within the doubt

+ SONG FOR DOPE

The air I breathe it means I’m in trouble
There was a circle of glass light
From another
This mountain

The air I breathe it means I’m in trouble
There was a circle of glass light
What are we if we are not dreamers
We wish to see the other side

I lament
Oh why can it be
What happened to the Earth
This mountain

I breathe
The sinner
What happened to your Eyes
mYeah

+ SICKER THAN YOU SEEM

Apathy is free and easy

Deep, dark, beautiful feelings
Misery’s shadow it haunts me, but you hold the key

Psychic freeze

I am not in the right way
I might be
All of the hunger you crave
Leaves me
Body breaking

Beautiful

You are sicker than you seem
Again

Deep, dark, feelings
Beauty
Feelings
Beautiful
You are sicker than you seem

+ PULSAR B1919+21

How you doing?
Fearing being around?
Wonder, wonder wants to be found here
Setting out, settling for who we are

We want to be seen

A piece of the pain
The pulse thickens again

I wish my mind would expand
Nothing is happening
Killing time, quickly within all the space
A rhythm unlike any we know here

We want to be seen

A piece of the pain
The pulse thickens again

We'll never rule
Never conquer the fear
But the wonder, wonder will remain

We want to be seen
We want to be seen

Isn't it a pity
Isn't it your craft
Isn't it shitty
It's all we have left
Isn't it a pity
Isn't it your craft
I don't want forever
Isn't it a pity
Isn't it your craft
Isn't it shitty
It's all we have left
Isn't it a pity
Isn't it your craft
I don't want forever
I don't want
Don't wanna see you
I don't wanna cry
I don't want your pity
Don't want to die

+ VOID

Void
You must avoid
The circle isn't round anymore
I seek solace here
Wonder where you'll be

Why all the things fall
Down and then down in time
Drown me now here in the solitude
Of everything

Always chasing the time in memory
Seems you've been here before
Don't feel like you're trapped with me
Don't feel/fill the void

Must not appear alright all the time
Now, how can I move here
It was such a long stride
It was such a long stride

How can I move here
Tell me how long I haven't
Your words- they mean more
When you don't use them
Tell me again

Must not appear all fine all the time
Now, how can I move here
It was such a long stride

Don't leave me here now
How can I move here
It was such a long stride
It was such a long stride
It took such a long time

+ THE ETHER

Hold it in your hand
My lies deny trust
Ashes to dust
One night closer to the ether

You hide away
You hide away

No harm when you’re under
My clear spell
No hope, no shelter
When you’re down, it’s so hard

Nobody knows me like you do
Nobody knows
Nobody knows me like you do
Nobody knows

Deceit, but I disclosed
We’re learning as we go
You try to turn off the light
We shone so nicely once

You hide away
You hide away

+ DEEP WELL

You mix your drink, and I'll mix mine
Keep talking, and I'll be fine
When I'm alone, I'm on trial
Don't try anymore

I'll never make it to the light
It's getting closer every time
When I'm alone, I'm on trial
Don't try anymore
But the times you're unwell only matter if you let them
Don't say, just pour
But the times you're unwell only matter if you let them
Don't say

Drinks once sweet now sour
A bitter love
In this or not at all
We lost touch with us

But the times you're unwell only matter if you let them
Don't say
But the times you're unwell only matter if you let them
Don't say anymore
Don't say, just pour

You mix your drink, and I'll mix mine

+ WAKE. PAIN. WAIT.

Paint your castle white
Bright enough to see
’Til it blends into the clouds and floats away

Bite the fingers clean
From the hand that feeds
Swimming blind for days to get away from me

Wake. Pain. Wait.

Sugar turns my lungs into
A sudden rush with fear
I can’t hear
But the anecdote is clear

Higher than the rockets
I wish that I could say
You were nice and I’m nice and it’s nice to be here
To be here

Wake. Pain. Wait.

Sugar turns my lungs into
A sudden rush with fear
I can’t hear
But the anecdote is clear

Don’t visit it too often
Keep it where you should
I might try to find you out
If I could

Higher than the rockets
I wish that I could say
You were nice and I’m nice and it’s nice to be here
To be here

Wake. Pain. Wait.

—PREVIOUS SINGLES—

WHITE FOAM

“What a debut.White Foam‘ rushes both nervously and excitingly, pushed by jittery electronics, twitchy percussion and flashy guitar lines while singer Chelsea Ray’s wailing vox float mysteriously over the magnetic orchestration. Her mystifying voice has that haunting Bjôrk timbre which reinforces the supernatural tone of this profound song. Pretty special and compelling….”

HAZEL

“Their brand new single is a cover of HAZEL, a stomping song by Scottish ethereal dream pop legends COCTEAU TWINS (released as a B-side on their 1983 single ‘Peppermint Pig‘). The breathtaking performance of TANGIENTS inventive interpretation of this track is just astonishing. Massive tribal drums inject this reverberating banger with a gigantic beat from the get-go. When jigsaw guitars and singer Chelsea Ray‘s voodoo vox kick in Siouxsie and The Banshees pop up instantly in your aural imagination and when a sinistrous bass tries to take control in the final minute you’ll experience an imposing sonic finale. This is not a cover, it’s a ravishing recreation. Inhale the energy right here…”
